Welcome back to Words101!
It’s been a few weeks since our exploration with a few words that shape the essence and direction of our lives…
(Revisit the previous articles on Courage, Authenticity and Trust…)
Today, we continue this journey with a concept that underlies all life here on earth:
C O N N E C T I O N.
Connection is a crucial foundation of our human experience because it speaks to purpose, passion, and to our ability to belong.
Connection means we are linked, united, joined, and in communion with
- other human beings
- planet Earth and the elements of nature
- spirit (Divine, God, Creator, Great Mystery, or however you define it)
And as we dive deeper into our connections with these beings, spirits and entities, we become more intricately woven into the fabric of life.
We begin to feel (as Abraham Hicks puts it) tuned in, tapped in and turned on.
When I’m really connected, I belong.
And to belong is a must, because being a part of something greater than ourselves is the force that ultimately defeats and dispels loneliness.
Feelings of isolation and loneliness indicates a shortage of true belonging and true connection.
Connection is what ultimately gives us purpose and gives our life meaning.
After all, if it’s all about me, what is the point?
Our ego would have us believe that this life is self-serving… that our own desires, preferences, needs and demands are primary to a life well-lived.
But look around!
All the wisest humans serve as living testaments to the truth…
Providing love, beauty and service to others is the one path to truly thriving.
Buddha, Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Jesus, Mandela…
Let them be reminders of the precious gems that lie in the caverns of connection.
And how do you know if you are lacking connection?
A few clues might be:
- regularly numbing out with substances, medications or technology
- experiencing frequent feelings of loneliness, even when surrounded by others
- dealing regularly with illness, infection, disease or discomfort in your body
- an inability to manifest the things you desire, and a tendency to focus on the things that haven’t worked or have injured you in the past
Connection is a crucial concept for me right now as I step into a rich new phase of life where I’m playing bigger, serving more, recognizing the lessons before me… all the while rising up into the roles of leadership being asked of me.
It is my personal prayer to never lose sight of the purpose behind my acts of service.
Here’s a few inquiries to spark your curiosity:
- How connected do you feel these days?
- In what areas of your life do you feel most connected right now?
- Where do you feel a disconnection?
- What do you think would help you feel more connected in those areas?
True connection means we belong, and true belonging means we are willing to be vulnerable with ourselves and others.
If this brings up a longing in you to fill some holes of connection, hit reply and reach out!
Isolation is no doubt the nemesis of loneliness.
But real connection requires more than just company.
It requires a willingness to see, and be seen.
I see you, and I honor your place in this world.
May you find a deeper connection within yourself, starting as soon as this very moment!
Blessings to all as we move into the fall season and see the light begin to fade…
