Don’t fill every second.
Welcome to your Wednesday Love Note, where I offer tips + inspo to help you cultivate and protect your peace, both personally and professionally—even with a busy-ass schedule.
First, here’s what's happening in the BGV ecosystem this week:
[The Protocol is out!]
Get The Peaceful Mind Protocol to dissolve overwhelm—fast—so you can be present, grounded and ready for whatever comes your way. Learn the entire protocol in 2 hours and feel more calm, present and resourced in the first 5 minutes.
Onto today’s inspo.
With the world at our fingertips and endless information to absorb, most of us fill every spare moment with “content.”
In the car, eating a meal, weeding the garden, doing the dishes, taking a bath, going for a walk, lifting at the gym, sitting on the toilet…
These are typical moments when most of us have our headphones in or speakers on.
This leaves no time to ponder, zone out, daydream, notice, or feel your feelings.
And while some folks may use these sources to intentionally distract their attention when they get dysregulated, I suspect most of us unconsciously reach for something to give our attention to in order to escape the feelings or emotions simmering under the surface that we aren’t even acknowledging.
What’s more, we don’t give ourselves time to be bored. This is a real tragedy for us all, but especially for the children, as boredom is the true birthplace of creativity!
So here’s a challenge:
Instead of turning on music, podcasts, YouTube, audiobooks or calling a friend (see all the ways I fill the quiet spaces? Is this you too?), practice simply being.
And a tip:
Create an established schedule to play with this.
For example: on MWF, let yourself simply rest in silence between activities, instead of filling it. On all the other days, let yourself engage in “content” whenever you want.
See what happens.
To enjoying the silence,
PS. My guess is that once you turn off the external content, your own “content” will naturally arise. Then you’ll need to navigate it. My new Peaceful Mind Protocol can help. Available now, and ready to support you in feeling more calm, focused and present amidst all the noise.
PPS. Enjoy the Silence is probably my favorite Depeche Mode song.
