First.

Today’s quick tip:

We’ve got it backwards when we schedule personal time only after we’ve prioritized our professional commitments.

This also extends into our work day…

“I’ll take a walk after I’m done working for the day” rather than “I’ve scheduled a walk at 4pm so that’s when I will clock out.” Or better yet, “I’m taking a walk at 8am and then I’ll start work at 10.”

The result?

We fail to prioritize our fitness, or our vacations, or time to work on our manuscript… and so it always gets pushed to the end of the list.

In other words, it never happens. We feel frustrated, tired, cranky, dissatisfied, because “there’s never enough time for me!”

The solution?

Schedule YOU time first.

Here’s 3 things to schedule first, not last:

🔹Your daily + weekly exercise

Because movement is medicine. If you work online like I do, you know that a sedentary lifestyle will creep up on you if you aren’t 100% determined and devoted to moving your body every single day. Schedule it and treat it like an appointment with your doctor.

🔹Your vacations + family time

Before the year begins, schedule some weekends and chunks of time OFF. Block it off and protect it! Even if you don’t know where you’ll go or how you’ll use it, make a boundary now so that it doesn’t get shuffled until last, and then neglected altogether.

🔹A day off after you travel

Whether for work or pleasure, taking a day off after you return home from travel is a pro move that will help you feel rested and ready to get back in the saddle. Because let’s be honest: even family vacays and pleasure trips can be exhausting. Trust me on this one.

Schedule YOU time first, and you’ll actually be able to show up for the people in your life with more patience and heart.
