Golden.
Welcome to your October edition of The Goods, where I share a few resources that are helping me feel more alive, connected and inspired. It’s always my hope that you click on a few of these tidbits and find something that enlivens you this month and beyond!
This month as we settle more deeply into autumn, I’m reflecting on GOLD… the shade of the turning leaves, the alchemists’ transmutation from lead, the gems we mine in the darkness of our own shadows…
Here’s where I’ve been finding the gold lately.
Let’s go.
How to Write Karma Free Emails
[11:29 min video]
Spend 11 minutes with Richard Rudd as he shares a genius strategy for writing karma-free emails. That’s a big word to unpack, so here’s my simplified go at it: our actions and inactions create karmas. It’s not punitive, like most people believe. What we think and how we behave matters, beyond even what we can see or suspect. And if it all matters, then let’s not bog each other down needlessly. Everyone who writes emails or sends text messages needs to watch this video!
Why the Matriarchy is a Trap
This wonderfully intriguing article by Perdita Finn is good medicine for those of us who dream of a matriarchal society in place of the shitshow we’re experiencing right now. In her words, “Matria means mother, but, and here’s the rub, archy means rule, government, and authority. If we take one system of domination and replace it with another, we are stuck in the civilized mindset, where one group will always exert power over another.”
How to Respond to Societal Collapse
[14:13 video]
This TEDx talk by Sarah Wilson is heartfelt, and surprisingly uplifting. I’ve been following Sarah Wilson since her days as a holistic health nut who championed the anti-sugar movement. Now she devotes her days to studying societal collapse and ecocide. I especially appreciate what she shares at the very end of this video on why diving into the reality of what’s happening on the planet is actually comforting, rather than terrifying (or maybe it’s a bit of both).
Try 3 months free on the Waking Up App
I’m a big fan of Waking Up. I especially love the content by David Whyte, Jayasāra, the 2 x Stoicism series, the 2 x series with Oliver Burkeman, all the talks by Joseph Goldstein… so much gold!
My current album obsession: Piedra Azul
I can’t stop listening to this album! It is the perfect pick me up to all the heavy shit. Yesterday I was sitting at my kitchen table working and when the second track came on I started dancing in my seat and had to stand to jump up and down, pumping my fists in the air. SI! POR FAVOR.
