Moving furniture moves energy.

My house is small but spacious. It’s the kind of place that feels larger than it actually is. Our westerly windows spill natural light over everything, while the far-reaching vista invites us to rest our gaze on forested shores and southern tips of the Olympic mountain range beyond.

This insane beauty and potent serenity makes up for the fact that we don’t have a guest room. But I also don’t love the necessity of an air mattress when friends come to town. 

Recently, I decided: I’m ready to manifest an extra bed.

I figured there would be enough space in my office, which also doubles as the music room and recording studio.

Like the powerful manifester I am, I started stalking OfferUp and Facebook Marketplace. I landed on either a day bed or a sofa that folds out flat as the ideal solution. I grew momentarily enamored of rattan daybeds, and nearly stretched beyond my ideal budget to acquire one. 

Patience my love, whispered my inner Rain Maker.

My tenacity paid off. A slate blue velvet fold-down sofa showed up, in great shape, for $50, located 15 minutes from my house. Best of all, it would fit in the back of our truck without taking the top off, which weighs a bajillion pounds. 

I fetched it with the help of my friend Mo, and together we began the business of reorganizing. Like a massive unforeseen hail storm, I careened into action.

When all was said and done, not only my office but my living room and my closet got a full makeover. Nearly everything got moved. Nearly every inch of carpet got vacuumed. Altars were reset. Books restacked. Instruments repositioned. Furniture reimagined. Rooms rebirthed.  

I’ve written, thought and taught extensively about the merits of clearing creative cobwebs. But whoa. 

I moved some serious energy.

Literally. 

In the aftermath, my home feels amazing… and so do I! I’m exercising regularly, playing music daily, feeling reinspired in my business and taking actions that were previously squashed by the weight of my resistance. I also received an unexpected check in the mail and welcomed some new clients…

Turns out that moving energy in our bank accounts, businesses, relationships and creative practices can be as simple as feng shui-ing a room.
