Romance your creativity

Today, we focus our gaze on sparking la chispa… the small internal ember… of our creativity.

Because spring is about to spring, and C R E A T I O N energy is knocking.

Knock, knock…

[IG reel] Want to be an artist? Watch Groundhog Day.
Ben and I watch Groundhog Day every single year. It never gets old. Then I saw this clip from Austin Kleon and now my appreciation for the film has miraculously increased! Watch this short reel. Then go watch Groundhog Day. Then go make some art.

[audiobook] The Creative Fire by Clarissa Pinkola Estés
“One discovers all manner of useful things on the way to nowhere in particular.”

[course] Conversational Charango with Monique Mizrahi
The charango was my very first instrument and holds a precious place in the musical pantheon. Years ago I hosted six months of “CharanGo! Club” to help fellow budding enthusiasts get more comfortable with this hummingbird-vibe instrument. (Find those recordings here.) If you’ve got one and want to build your skills—or if you want to go get one asap!—I highly recommend learning with Monique.

[pod] Archetypes, Anthems & Astrology for 2026 - Apple / Spotify
The first episode of the year, and also my first ever guest! My friend Verana Faye and I got down in the depths with energies and intuitive hits we’ve received for the year ahead. It’s a longer episode than usual, but so worth it! Five different songs weave through the episode to fuel your projects, passions and pace for 2026.

[ritual] Reset your altar.
Now that we're at last on the verge of springing and on the cusp of the Lunar New Year (aligning with this Tuesday’s new moon in Aquarius and annular solar eclipse), it’s the perfect time to dust off your altar. Better yet, remove everything. Clean the surface and anoint it with your favorite oil. Dust each object, then carefully consider what stays and what goes. What are you calling forth in the season ahead? What creative fires will you ignite, and what old patterns will you throw on the pyre? Here are 3 suggestions to spark inspiration:

👉 Make a money bowl to woo some delightful financial overflow.

👉 Add a Brigid’s Cross in honor of Imbolc to kindle your creative flame (tons of tutorials to craft one yourself online).

👉 Collect plant materials to honor those relatives who are nourishing you this season of life (dried roses or blue lotus blossoms, fresh flowers, green leaves to woo freshness, herbs from your favorite daily tea...)

[substack] I thought guidance came from above. I was wrong.
I really enjoyed working on this piece. It’s an exploration of my annual theme for 2026, and the unexpected perks of good physical and metaphysical posture. (Did you choose an annual theme for 2026? What is it? How is it showing up so far?)

May your creative embers get gusted with the breath of springtime, dear one.

Whether you’ve got “a valentine” or not, the best person to romance is first and foremost and always the one you see in the mirror.
