Transmute your anxiety into awareness đź§
Welcome to October, dear one, and your monthly alchemical attunement.
This is a process of...
✨ Using our own wisdom and evolution as a tuning fork, bringing us into vibration with our highest Self.
✨ Bridging the mystic and the mundane, the esoteric and the practical, spirit and matter, joy and grief.
✨ Transmuting our "base materials" into gold... turning pain into power, wounds into wisdom, and grief into grace.
For many, I think the 4th quarter of the year can bring up feelings of anxiety.
Maybe there are whispers of…
⚡️Eeek! Where did the year go?
⚡️It’s nearly 2024 and I haven't launched my new project yet…
⚡️Why am I still sitting on that idea and not taking action? What’s wrong with me?
⚡️I haven't met my annual money goals and now I’ve got 3 months left. Yeesh, the pressure’s on.
Or perhaps there’s simply an uneasy feeling, an unexplainable heaviness, or straight up dread in your heart for the state of the world and all the uncertainty in your midst.
Friend, you’re not alone.
Today’s Alchemical Attunement is devoted to transmuting feelings of anxiety into awareness and ease.
Last month I began a coaching training program called Integrative Changework. I am learning to be a changeworker.
In plain english, I’m learning how to help people change their brain.
It is so. cool.
As I learn more about neuroplasticity, what strikes me is the fact that changing our brains is actually simpler than we believe.
Earlier this year, I started to adopt a new mantra along the lines of “it no longer takes me a long time to change. I now integrate and implement deep transformation elegantly and swiftly.”
This program is showing me that is 1000% possible!
So what part of me still doesn’t believe that?
Here lies the rub.
The part of me that still believes change is hard is the thinker. It is the girl who “tries to figure it out” with her brain.
Revelation: we don’t change our brain with thoughts!
That is literally scraping the surface of our capacity, because it is only dealing with the conscious brain. But what’s so crucial to understand is that we CHANGE and MANIFEST not from our thinking conscious mind… but from our unconscious mind.
All the techniques I’m learning right now directly speak to the unconscious mind, and in doing so, redirect old mental patterns, which means we can then redirect old habits.
The first step I invite you to take is this:
Simply become aware that anything you want to change needs to be approached with
a. Unconscious, subconscious re-patterning
b. Pragmatic, aligned actions (which will then be doable bc of the brain rewiring)
This awareness is the first step.
If I were sitting in front of you, I would show you 5 techniques you can do right now to rewire your brain in order to change the thing that you most want to change RIGHT NOW.
Since I’m sending this transmission via email, I’ll offer 3 written hacks you can try today — right freaking now — to lessen your anxiety and shift into a greater state of awareness.
In advance: for the love of all things holy, don’t poo-poo these. They seriously work. Even if you are familiar with them, I challenge you to actually try them out in a moment when you are experiencing and suffering from anxiety.
✨ 3 tools to alchemize your anxiety ✨
1. The Long Exhale
Rate your anxiety right now on a scale from 1-10. Note your honest answer. Then take a 3-4 second inhale, through your nose if possible. Exhale twice as long. Repeat 3 times. Now rate your anxiety again and notice for yourself if the number has decreased. Seeing is believing. Practice along with me on IG here.
2. Shift Out and Shut Up
Again, rate your anxiety right now on a scale from 1-10. Take note of your answer. Then find something in front of you to focus your gaze on. Take some slow deep breaths (make the exhale twice as long to add extra potency to this exercise), and without moving your eyes, soften your gaze and widen your peripheral vision. Continue to breathe and simply stay with that widened peripheral soft awareness. After three breaths, blink your eyes a few times and return to a normal state. Again, rate and note your anxiety on a scale of 1-10 afterward so you can notice any change. I just taught this on IG, watch and practice along with me here.
3. The 90-Second Rule
My teacher Melissa says that any emotion will clear your body in 90 seconds if you don’t add more wood to the fire in that timeframe. When you’re in the midst of feeling anxious over something, your job is to focus on something else for 90 seconds — ANYTHING ELSE!
Some suggestions: Loudly sing a song (Row Row Row Your Boat?). Raise your arms toward the sky and jump up and down with vigor. Count to 90 in a sing-song voice. Tell a short story out loud to yourself about a happy memory. Out loud, describe in detail something beautiful or pleasing in your field of vision, or from your memory.
If you must, set a timer for 90 seconds to make sure you keep at it. When the time is up, take those 3 breaths with a longer exhale, and rate your anxiety now. Notice any shift.
✨ Alchemical Mantra ✨
“I can change my brain and my habits swiftly and easily. I’m willing to learn a new way of being.”
May these tips and tricks prove useful to you, Yen.
As I was soaking in the bath earlier this week, I went into a deep visioning state and started hearing intuitive nudges to share every tool and technique in my own kit to battle anxiety.
No matter who you are, what you do for work, what your love relationship status is, or how much money is in your bank account, anxiety is real and persistent for so many of us.
We like to think that once I have __________ (1M in the bank, my perfect partner, my dream house, etc etc), my anxiety will go away.
What I hear from my friends, allies and colleagues with 1M in the bank, beautiful partnerships, dreamy homes and fabulous careers is that anxiety is still part of the human curriculum.
I didn’t begin to suffer true anxiety attacks until after a traumatizing psychedelic journey in my 30s. That's a story I’m still reluctant to fully disclose, but suffice to say that I’ve gotten a good hard schooling in empathy when it comes to anxiety.
If you’re one of the billions of people on the planet who suffer in the firm grip of anxiety, please know you are not alone— and, take refuge in the fact that there are simple workarounds you’ve never heard of.
Try those 3 above and let me know what you think.
Also, if you feel called, I’d love to hear:
- How long have you suffered from anxiety?
- In what arena does it get activated the most often? (family, work, money, etc)
- Have you found anything that actually works?
I’m so fired up to bring this new badassery into my coaching practice. I am becoming a true changeworker, and I'm already seeing incredible transformation for the first round of my clients and community with whom I've tried these new techniques.
In the meantime, practice those tools and invite awareness in.
You’ve got this.
In your corner,
Britta
